We're proud to be one of the many heating specialist companies that are Gas Safe registered in the UK. But why is it important to look out for the Gas Safe register logo?
What is the Gas Safe register?
It's a basically a list of companies and engineers who have applied and been certified to be on the Gas Safe register. Part of the registration process is to be assessed on capability to work safely on gas appliances. They also check for:
Successful completion of a relevant NVQ or SVQ qualifications
Retrain every 5 years to maintain registration
Completion of a 3 month probation
Why does it matter?
Quite simply, it's dangerous to have anyone working on your heating system that isn't on the Gas Safe register. According to research compiled by Gas Safe, almost 96% of jobs carried out illegally by those without a Gas Safe accreditation were found to be unsafe.
What's the danger involved?
Poor work carried out by under-qualified engineers can result in damage to your appliances, meaning more expense in repair, which will end up costing more in the long-term. More serious dangers are that the appliance could be made unsafe by the illegal fitter, and you could risk a gas or even Carbon Monoxide leak.
By selecting a gas safe engineer or company, you can be sure these workman have been assessed and deemed safe to work on gas appliances.
How to check for Gas Safe?
Each registered engineer should carry a Gas Safe card, and on this will be a engineers license number. If you have concerns on the validity of the card, then you can call the Gas Safe Register and check on 0800 408 5500 or check online. Also, every business will need to renew their registration every 12 months, so check for the date!
