This week, we undertook a mammoth job of fitting underfloor heating at a poultry farm in Lower Heath, Shropshire.
The customer needs to keep a consistent temperature for the chickens that live in the shed, so fitting underfloor heating is the most efficient and cost effective way of maintaining these heat levels.
To make the set-up as environmentally friendly as possible, the underfloor heating system is connected to a biomass boiler. These boilers are very similar to conventional boilers, providing space heating and hot water, but instead of using gas or oil to produce the heat, they burn sustainably sourced wood pellets.
At our customer's request, we used Polypipe specialist underfloor barrier pipe. This differs to usual plastic pipe as it has an additional layer inside to protect against sludge build up, plus it's larger in diameter which is perfect for the size of the area.
However, due to manufacturer restrictions with Covid-19, we switched to another brand of pipe to complete the final two zones.
In total, we fitted 9.2 miles worth of pipe, in the space of just 5 days!
